The days are long but the years are short....

One of my favorite sayings as a parent is the days are long but the years are short..... The years fly by.  You never understood it as a kid but as soon as you have your own children you realize how true it is.  Except for right now.  We are at T minus 3 days and counting and the days are literally crawling by!  I even fell asleep in the first minute of a movie last night at 9:00 and didn't wake up on the couch till 3:00 A.M.  Come on already!  I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas to come.  Am I really this impatient?

Is it Thursday yet?  I keep checking.  But no it's still Monday!  Lots of errands today.  Funny how much you need to get for a second house.  Lots and lots of miscellaneous things on the to do list.   Imagine if we had to furnish it?  Thank goodness we don't!  Target is the perfect place to go.  Flour, sugar, baking soda, oil, baking powder (essential for blueberry pancake breakfasts)!  Shampoo, body wash (for both showers..we've never had two showers before)!!  Sponges, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap (are they septic system friendly)?  Plus a few signs to make.

Picking up items for another friend who is getting a house and getting it renter ready but had a last minute doctor's appointment.  Finding one last rug and mirror on the yardsale and free sites that we will work into the cottage design.  Might as well add things now before we load up the moving truck to head up there.  After that it is hard enough to load our own 3 children and 2 big dogs with all their gear in our Honda pilot.  I love that car but it does not have a lot of storage space for road trips.  Little things can come later but the big stuff has to be ready for moving day.   Apparently our black lab, Nola, likes the new rug.   She's been laying on it every chance she gets.  Perhaps we should roll it up and put it with the pile of other things we are bringing.  But no.  Right now it's rolled out in the middle of our kitchen floor with a side table for the room, some paint chips and an arm from a love seat to make sure everything goes.  And it's right in the middle of the kitchen.  Along with the dresser we painted three weeks ago.  We like how the rug pulls in the colors of the rest of the cottage all in one place.  There is a little turquoise, yellow and red, albeit more muted shades than the kitchen.  Some purple and greens and blues too.  Pottery barn 8 by 10 rug for $75.  Most are $600-1000 new.  Score!  Next find was a free mirror that my husband said "Wait, what's that?" while I was scrolling through Facebook.  A few ice-cream cones, a daughter picked up from dance, and fifteen minutes later it was on our kitchen counter.  FREE!

Last but not least are the lists.  I have lots of them.  So many for the lake cottage that I actually have a clipboard of lists.  You don't believe me?

Sometimes phone lists just don't work.  You need to cross and star and check off and circle.  Today's phone list had to be transferred to paper.  I didn't want to miss anything and have to go out again.  This weekend's list was to get this house cleaned and organized before we head to move into the cottage.  At least the outside.  Lawn mowed, gardens weeded, mulch spread, playground picked up. Then when that was done I had a whole list of things to do inside.  The outside looks beautiful!  The things on the list that didn't get checked off were all on inside.  Dinner and a few beers with the neighbors was more appealing than forging on with the list!  We can always get to it another day!

But not next weekend.  When I can't wait to hang this new sign!!
