Hurricane Rain

We actually don't mind a little rain at the cottage.  It gives you a chance to enjoy the inside.  To slow down.  We've had a few very rainy days there.   As in 3-5 inches of rain days.   And last week we were expecting Hurricane Arthur (named after my dad ;)  The night before the residual effects of the hurricane were supposed to hit we noticed the wind pick up over the lake.  There were suddenly white caps on the normally calm water in front of the house.  The trees were blowing as if there was suddenly hurricane force winds.  Rod and I ran outside thinking we hadn't battened down the hatches enough.  Our real mission was to save the floaties that we all enjoy using so much in the lake.  We crammed a kayak on top of them and ran back inside.  Soaked to the skin in a matter of minutes.  It wasn't even the hurricane that had arrived but a big old fashioned thunder & lightening storm.  I love the sound of rain on the cottage roof.  The pitter patter of rain drops makes for perfect sleeping weather.  The flickering lights and loud booms of thunder threatened to keep our children from sleeping and us from painting. Fortunately we never lost electricity.  It was hotter than Hades in the room we were painting but a few beers and the motivation to get rid of the pink kept us going.

Friday morning we woke up to what was supposed to be the edges of the hurricane at the lake.  The weather had cooled and there was a consistent rain all day.  Perfect day for...

Painting nails..
Making banners for a big sister driving home from camp...

Finishing painting & putting rooms back together

Driving home from camp

Doing puzzles & lots and lots of reading.
I'm happy to say my girls are finally discovering their inner book worms.

And napping....

The hurricane was barely a storm after the thunderstorm the night before.  It was a good day to take a break from all the fun and sun and catch up on indoor things.  Looking forward to watching the next storm roll in over the lake at the cottage...
